Breast Augmentation Q & A

What is breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation is a surgery to increase the volume of your breasts. To give you the most natural look and texture possible from a breast augmentation, your providers at Leva Medical use fat transfers from other areas of your body to move natural tissue from one place to another.

After removing fat cells from your gluteal or lower abdomen, your provider processes the removed fat in a centrifuge to take out any extra blood and fluid. When they remove the sample from the centrifuge, the fat is liquified and ready for injection.

The fat sample also includes regenerative cells called stem cells, which help the fat integrate into its new area. Using a very fine cannula (hollow needle), your provider places the fat in your breasts to enhance their shapes and sizes.

What should I expect during my breast augmentation?

Before your breast augmentation, your provider administers tumescent anesthesia. That is a form of local anesthesia that your provider guides into place using an ultrasound. While the anesthesia is active, you won’t feel pain or discomfort.

Your provider then extracts the fat, processes it, and places it with the stem cells into your breasts. They place the fat injections strategically to make sure your breasts are symmetrical, smooth, and natural-looking upon your treatment’s completion.

You can combine your breast augmentation at Leva Medical with a J Plasma laser procedure to tighten the skin of the breasts and provide a subtle lifting effect.

What happens after a breast augmentation?

You’ll experience some slight swelling and soreness after a breast augmentation, which you can minimize by following your provider’s post-procedure instructions. Your provider makes sure you understand what to expect during the recovery process so you can plan ahead for any missed work or commitments.

After your breast augmentation with fat transfer, your provider instructs you to:

  • Avoid strenuous physical activity for a few weeks
  • Take certain medications according to their instructions
  • Come in for a follow-up visit 6-8 weeks after the procedure
  • Modify certain habits as you recover, like smoking

Depending on your health and lifestyle, you might get some additional instructions to follow while recovering from your breast augmentation.
