PRP Injection Q & A

What is a PRP injection?

A platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection is a treatment used by many health professionals to treat a wide range of needs and concerns. PRP is a blood product made from your own blood that features a high concentration of platelets.

Platelets are tiny cells that travel in your blood and are best known for stopping cuts from bleeding. But platelets also contain growth factors that help heal those cuts.

A PRP injection delivers a high concentration of your body’s natural healing cells to activate or accelerate the healing process.

Leva Medical uses the PRP injection for hair loss, as well as for vaginal revitalization.

Am I a candidate for a PRP injection?

Schedule a consultation at Leva Medical to see if PRP injections can benefit you. Hair loss is a common problem affecting men and women. However, there are many conditions that cause hair loss.

During your thorough evaluation, your provider at Leva Medical reviews your medical and family history and examines your hair and scalp. They may also take a biopsy of your scalp or run blood work to determine the underlying cause of your hair loss.

If you have androgenic alopecia, also known as male or female-pattern baldness, and your hair loss is fairly recent, you may be a candidate for PRP injections.

Hair loss caused by an underlying health condition, such as a thyroid disorder or lupus, may not improve with PRP.

What happens during a PRP injection session?

Leva Medical customizes your PRP injection session to match your specific needs and reviews the details of your treatment at your initial consultation. First, they take a sample of blood from your arm to make your PRP.

Then, your provider injects the PRP into the areas of the scalp where you have hair loss.

You need monthly PRP injections for the first three months, then injections every three to four months over the next two years.

How long does a PRP injection take to work?

Hair grows in cycles. You may see improvements in the thickness and strength of your hair about two to three months after you start your PRP injections.

Researchers theorize PRP works by reactivating your dormant hair follicles to resume hair growth and lengthening the hair growing cycle.
